Enjoy a free outdoor social hosted by the people, for the people

  • Location: Plaza de la Furia (across from Bruja Bar)

Dancing by the beach as the sun goes down? Pure magic.

Wednesday: La Palmera

Miguel, one of the best Bachata dancers in Puerto, has a hostel that gives Salsa and Bachata lessons with a social afterward. You will meet a lot of people here. All good vibes. :)

Thursday: Mandala

Another solid option with a mix of Bachata and Salsa. Level is decent, but Friday - Sunday socials are much better.

  • Location: Mandala, andador delfines, Playa Zicatela, 70934 calle del morro esquina, Av. Del Morro sn, 70934 Puerto Escondido, Oax., Mexico
  • More info: @mandalazicatela

Friday: Terraza Zikarú

One of the best outdoor venues with a great vibe and fresh ocean air. Expect a mix of locals and travelers looking to dance and have fun.

  • Location: Terraza Zikarú, EL ADOQUIN, Marina Nacional, Bahia Principal, 71980 Puerto Escondido, Oax., Mexico
  • Class: 8PM
  • Social: 9PM
  • More info: @terrazazikaru

Friday: PM

Lately I like Zikaru more but you can consider PM. Depends on who's going.

Saturday: Néctar

This is one of my favorite socials to dance. The venue is beautiful. The level is the highest in Puerto (which isn't that high TBH, so take this with a grain of salt). The only con is that it ends early.

  • Location: Néctar, Campeche 463, entre C. Justo Salvador & C. Brisas, Brisas de Zicatela, 70934 Puerto Escondido, Oax., Mexico
  • Class: 8PM
  • Social: 9PM until 11PM (because of noise restrictions in La Punta, but dancers usually hang out at El Palenquito afterward)
  • More info: @hotelnectar

Entry Costs

All the socials cost around 100 pesos and usually include a free drink. The Sunday social is free though since it's in a public setting.

Tam’s Tips for Dancing in Puerto Escondido

Puerto is HOT. You will sweat, a lot. Here’s how to stay fresh and comfortable:

  • Bring plenty of water (some venues allow you to bring your own)
  • Wear loose, flowy clothing, and bring an extra shirt if needed
  • Put on deodorant + perfume/cologne before you arrive
  • Take the class before the social—it’s the best way to make fast friends
  • Brush up on Bachata with our free 1-hour training and YouTube tutorials with Bachata Library

I usually teach at PM and the Sunday Sunset social when I'm in town. Say hi @tamphambachata if you’re around!
